Who We Are - The Gryphonsguard
The Free Company of the Gryphonsguard is a mercenary fighting unit based out of the West Kingdom of the Society for Creative Anachronism. We espouse very simple principles: "Fight Hard. Play Hard. Have fun." Whether doing Heavy/Light Combat, dancing, supporting the troops in battle, cooking, or just plain relaxing after a long day's work, we have a lot of good times!
We travel to lots of Wars. Some of these Include: Estrella War (We liked it so much, we even have an enclave out there!), Gulf Wars, Clinton War, Potrero War, and even the Pennsic Wars. We definitely make it to all of the West Kingdom based Wars (West-AnTir, West/Caid, Artemesia Border Skirmishes), as well as appearing at many very small Wars (Wargy, Mists/Cynagua, Water War, War of the Baronies). Just look for the Black, Red, and Blue - we'll be there. Our members do a lot more than just fight. In addition to helping out in all aspects of the SCA, the Guard's interests are very diverse. They inlcude things like: Costuming, Dancing, Leatherworking, Cooking, Fire Tending, Weaving, Embroidery, Brewing, scribal/Illumination Work, Singing, Poetry, and Good-Natured Insulting all of the time. Trust me, there is never a dull momemt in Gryphon Camp! There are two types of members: full members (Gryphons) and novices (Gryphon Eggs). Eggs wear Surcoats and Carry Shields of divided Blue and Black. Gryphons wear Surcoats and Carry Shields of our registered Arms: Per pall gules, sable and azure, a compass star of sixteen points elongated to base between a pair of gauntlets clasped and two gryphons combattant, argent (that's the image in the upper right hand corner). Eggs can only become full Gryphons with a Unanimous vote of the full members. Eggs are made after a person spends a considerable amount of time with the Guard, and has expressed an interest in joining the Guard.
